St Austell Brewery the Company

Founded in 1851, St Austell Brewery is one of the oldest businesses in Cornwall. Still family owned, today we are one of Cornwall's largest private companies with 1,000 employees, 169 pubs and an annual turnover of over £90m.

Operating from the main brewery site at 63 Trevarthian Road in St Austell with three distribution centres in St Columb, Ilfracombe, and Heathfield, St Austell Brewery's business covers five main aspects:

1. Brewing

We brew award-winning cask and bottled ales at our Victorian Brewery in St Austell which are available in pubs, bars and supermarkets throughout Cornwall, the West Country and increasingly across much of the UK. Our best known real ales include Tribute, Proper Job, HSD and Trelawny. For more information on our beers and brewing click here.

2. Pub Estate

St Austell Brewery owns a thriving estate of 169 pubs, inns and hotels in Cornwall, Devon, the Isles of Scilly and Somerset. 25 of these are Managed Houses - where the staff are employed by St Austell Brewery. The remaining houses are operated as tenancies and leases and are run by self employed people working alongside St Austell Brewery.  For more information on our pub estate or if you would like to run a pub click here.

3. Free Trade

St Austell Brewery is South West England’s largest wholesale distributor of beers, lagers, ciders, wines, spirits and soft drinks, serving more than 2,500 free trade accounts, from pubs, clubs, restaurants, hotels and other licensed outlets in Cornwall, Devon, Somerset, Dorset and the Isles of Scilly.

4. Walter Hicks Wine Merchants

Our Walter Hicks Wine Merchants subsidiary supplies an expansive range of fine wines to restaurants, hotels, pubs and bars throughout the South West of England. Walter Hicks has the only bonded warehouse in Cornwall and our annual wine fair is one of the biggest of its kind outside of London.
